for extra guests

I'm dreaming of warmer weather and getting back to my favourite place... so today I'm sharing a retrospective photo of the accommodation setup we offer our extra guests when the bach and sleepout are occupied... from all accounts, it's very snug & cosy for 6 people to sleep in.

favourite place

as it gets colder, I'm thinking more of my favourite place, Kennedy Bay. Even in the cold of winter it's the best place to be... walking the dog on the beach even when the wind is blowing hard... then straight indoors for some steaming hot cocoa....

sunrise

This morning the sun rose in Kennedy Bay through a blanket of long white cloud. In the distance the sea was bathed in a warm golden glow. Simply breathtaking.
ps: I underexposed the 3rd photo for effect.

Had to capture a super bright sunset at Kennedy Bay after a day of very changeable weather...

after the storm

the foreshore is littered with plant life tossed ashore by the churning waves. Discovered some very interesting shapes and textures.

kennedy bay

Kennedy Bay retains a retro charm that harks back to the 1960s and 70s. The old kiwi baches and caravans still dominate the landscape in a very small seaside community. The nearest shops are 12 kilometres away in Coromandel town. The challenging drive to town weaves up and down through the Coromandel forest on winding part gravel and tar seal road.

smoking the catch

Early Easter Saturday morning, the air is filled with the fragrant smell of smoked mussels in a nearby neighbours smoking hut.

the early birds...

Early morning view from the deck of our bach

Meet Shaggy (a pied shag)

The local chooks meet Miss 6

Another wonderfully long weekend at the bach. This time we were visited by the early birds of the area. Firstly we had a young pied shag come walking up the steps and tapping on the glass sliding door with its beak. It appeared friendly and Miss 6 & I were able to walk it back to the beach about 120 metres from our deck. The shag happily walked along and dived in to the surf with great vigour then swam away.

Then the next day we were visited by the local chickens who have a lovely, cosy coop about 75 metres away and a very dutiful owner, yet they insist on coming down to see us for special tidbits and dusty sand baths under our deck.
